“If I was down to my last dollar, I’d spend it on public relations.”
Do you know who said that?
It was Bill Gates.
Founder of one of the most successful technology businesses ever created.
“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin it.”
That one was Warren Buffett.
And there are plenty more quotes extolling the virtues of public relations as well.
If some of the brightest business minds on the planet are convinced of the value to be found in PR, why does the profession still receive criticism?
Especially considering the collective job that has been done to transition the tech industry from a sector for ‘geeks’, to one of the most desirable industries to work in.
Sure, there have been trailblazing entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg who have made founding your own tech company cool, but they couldn’t have built this reputation alone.
And, if everyone is being honest, there are a huge amount of tech entrepreneurs that are not natural communicators.
So, who do they turn to? Well, in many cases it is by hiring a PR agency to help tell the story of the company and build their personal brand.
We have therefore decided to celebrate the top tech PR executives that have played their part in supporting some of the now household names in the tech industry and developed the sector as a whole.
To do so, we have again put the decision in the hands of the Hot Topics community and asked them to nominate the 100 top tech PR executives globally.
The factors that were under consideration were whether the individual had:
– helped to build some of the most powerful brands in the industry
– contributed to the success of their clients in a meaningful way
– founded, or been part of the management team of a Tier 1 tech PR or communications agency
– been early adopters of new technologies
– a global network within the tech and media industries
The result was a list of the 100 top tech PR executives that are on the agency side of the industry. Not in-house communications leads.
Congratulations to all that were nominated.
